When it comes to choosing the best material for your Hernando MS fence, there are several factors to consider. From the overall aesthetics to the level of maintenance required, each material offers its own set of advantages and drawbacks. At Hernando MS Fence Company, we understand the importance of selecting the right material for your fencing needs, which is why we have put together this ultimate guide to help you make an informed decision.
Wood fences have long been a popular choice for homeowners due to their traditional look and natural appeal. They can be easily customized to suit your style preferences and are relatively affordable. However, wood fences do require regular maintenance to prevent rotting, warping, and insect infestation. If you're willing to put in the effort to upkeep your fence, wood can be an excellent option for a classic and timeless look. Iron fences, on the other hand, offer a more elegant and sophisticated appearance. They are incredibly durable and can last for decades with minimal maintenance. Iron fences are also highly customizable and can be designed to complement the architecture of your home. While they may come with a higher upfront cost, the longevity and classic charm of an iron fence can make it a worthwhile investment. For those seeking a low-maintenance option, vinyl fences are a popular choice. Vinyl fences are easy to clean, do not require painting or staining, and are resistant to rot and fading. They are available in a variety of styles and colors, making them a versatile option for any property. While vinyl fences may not offer the same level of charm as wood or iron, they provide a clean and modern aesthetic that is perfect for contemporary homes. Aluminum fences are another low-maintenance option that offers the look of wrought iron without the hefty price tag. They are lightweight, durable, and come in a wide range of styles and colors. Aluminum fences are resistant to rust and corrosion, making them ideal for areas with inclement weather conditions. While they may not provide as much security or privacy as other materials, aluminum fences are a cost-effective and stylish choice for enhancing your property's curb appeal. For a budget-friendly and practical option, chain-link fences are a durable and versatile choice. They are easy to install, require little to no maintenance, and provide excellent security for your property. While they may not offer the same level of privacy or aesthetics as other materials, chain-link fences can be enhanced with privacy slats or vines for a more attractive appearance. Ultimately, the best fence material for your property will depend on your preferences, budget, and maintenance capabilities. By considering these factors and weighing the pros and cons of each material, you can make an informed decision that will enhance the beauty, security, and functionality of your property. At Fences & Decks for Less, we are here to help you choose the perfect fence material that meets your needs and exceeds your expectations.
Are you looking to upgrade your home’s exterior? One of the best ways to enhance your property's curb appeal and security is by installing a new fence by Hernando MS Fence Company. With so many Hernando MS fence styles to choose from, it can be overwhelming to decide which one is right for your home. To help you out, here are the top 5 trending fence styles for your home:
When it comes to choosing fence post material there are a lot of things to consider, the standard for a wood privacy fence is usually pressure treated pine which is known not to rot and decay as fast as non-treated wood. A 4"x4" square post is common or 4"x6" for more strength or up to 6"x6" post for ultimate strength. In general, a wood fence post should be set in concrete at least one-third of their height in the ground. In loose soil or colder climates post most likely would need to be set deeper. Hole size should be 3x times size of post as well.
Metal steel post such as the Postmaster post from Master Halco are another option. A good quality metal post does cost more versus wood; however, they do not warp or crack. The Postmaster metal post are engineered to be set in cement. Some fence companies have eliminated using concrete and just drive them in the ground with a gas-powered post driver to shave the cost of concrete and labor. Beneficial for the fence contractor but not the customer! Since the patent expired on the Master Halco Postmaster post, China has flooded the market as well with lower quality imitation postmaster post. Just be cautious of any fence contractor offering metal fence post and find out about the installation process before signing a contract or work begins, if the contractor tells you they do not need concrete, that's a red flag and there's most likely a sales pitch coming next to make it convincing. At Hernando MS Fence Company we belief in doing the job right, all our post shall be set in concrete regardless if using steel or wood, "we do not cut any corners"!
When choosing pickets for your Hernando MS fence there are several options. Here is some information to help you decide which type of wood to use depending on your budget and needs. The most common fence picket is the dog-eared cut pressure treated pine board. Pressure treated pine is one of the most economical choices and can last a very long time depending on the environment it is used in. Pressure treated pine does warp, split, check and crack more than cedar especially if the fence is continuously exposed to direct sunlight on a daily basis and has not been properly stained or sealed. You can expect to perform more maintenance throughout the life of the fence such as re-fastening warped boards, re-placing severely warped or cracked boards as well. Pressure treated pine can be a good choice and will give you the most "bang for your buck" if you do not mind a little maintenance and upkeep.
Cedar fence pickets are generally known to be the best choice in our region due to availability. There are several species of cedar available for fencing in the Hernando MS fence area. Western red cedar is known to be the best choice which can be the most expensive as well. Then incense cedar is a well-known species and is less expensive than western red, it is more brittle than western red, expect slightly more distortion, splitting and cracking than western red cedar. Incense cedar stains and seals very well and is an excellent choice for cedar fence at a more affordable price. Chinese and Japanese cedar has flooded the big box stores over the last 5 years, the quality varies depending on supply source. These boards have similar characteristics as Balsa wood, light weight and soft. These imported boards can be a good choice over pressure treated and is recommended to be stained and sealed for longevity.
Some things to bear in mind when choosing a fence company. A good reputable contractor should know the differences between cedar, if you are quoted a cedar fence and the contractor is not revealing the type of cedar that could be a red flag. The fence contractor could be inexperienced and not actually know the difference, or the fence contractor may be charging a premium price for a less quality product. "How would you know". At Hernando Fence we will always discuss the options during your free consultation. Another trick commonly seen is for a fence contractor to offer a pre-stained cedar board, often times these pre-stained boards are cheap imported pickets of poor quality, the contractor then shoves them through a bath of heavy stain to hide imperfections and sale them at a premium price right off the truck before the wood has been properly dried. At Hernando MS Fence Company we recommend staining and sealing your fence after the wood has been installed and properly seasoned and dried, this allows moisture to escape from the wood and enhances maximum adhesion of the stain or sealer when applied.
When it comes to fasteners for a wood fence, we recommend hot dipped galvanized ring shank fasteners for pressure treated lumber and prefer them versus screws. Ring shank nails are designed to allow for flexing, there will be some movement and flexing of a wood type fence during high winds and storms, screws on the other hand tend to snap and break easier due to the hardness of the fastener. At Hernando MS Fence Company we recommend stainless steel fasteners to prevent streaking with cedar fencing, hot dipped fasteners react with the natural tannins in cedar wood and tend to cause streaks and bleeding around the faster area.
